           Before you apply for Google AdSense

After you have become familiar with the Google AdSense program, you
will no doubt be in a hurry to start cashing in on all the
excitement and start raking in the cash.  Before you sign up,
however, it is important to take some important preliminary steps
to make sure that everything is in place to do it right the first
time.

It is amazing, for instance, how many people apply for Google
AdSense before their web sites have been checked for simple
spelling and grammar errors.  It is absolutely vital to check your
web site carefully for these common but easily rectified mistakes.
Although Google is quite professional, these types of sites can
sometimes get approved, to the dismay of paying advertisers. 

After all, put yourself in the place of a Google AdWords advertiser.  You
start checking to see who is hosting your ads and you discover to
your horror that the hosting web site is full of typos and other
errors.  You would not be happy, and chances are that sloppy web
site will get few if any click throughs.

It is much better to design the web site professionally from the
ground up than to try to go back later on and correct errors.  It
is important not to cut corners on the design of the web site or on
the content.  After all, it will be the content of the web site
that drives the ads and brings viewers to the site.  Having high
quality web content, coupled with a good web design and user
friendly interface, is an essential first step toward a successful
Google AdSense experience.

It is also important to know that Google will quickly reject those
web sites that have been designed specifically to attract search
spiders, or to trick web visitors into clicking ads.  Google is
getting smarter every day at rejecting these types of sites, so do
not waste your time building such a site.  In order to be truly
valuable to Google advertisers, the web site must be attractive to
human visitors, not just to search engines.

On a related note, it would be a mistake to build a web site purely
for the purpose of making money through the AdSense program.  It is
genuine clicks that make money, and in order for those clicks to
happen the web site must offer real value and real compelling
content to visitors.  The best strategy is to build a web site
based on your passion, and let the AdSense money follow.

In the world of AdSense, targeted content will work best, since
highly targeted content will help to attract the highly targeted
ads that tend to have the best click through rates.  If you are
lucky enough to be in a high value, low competition niche, you are
a step ahead of the competition going in.

One mistake that many newcomers make is to build a web site
targeted around what they perceive as high value keywords.  Since
the rates for specific keywords change all the time, this is a
difficult strategy to maintain and it rarely pays the dividends
people think. 

Likewise it would be a mistake to target the same
keywords as another web publisher in hopes of duplicating his or
her results.  Every situation is different and just because you
target the same words does not mean you will make the same level of
income.

When setting up a site you plan to submit to Google AdSense, it is
important to keep in mind just how important it is to have relevant
content on your site.  Google uses the content on its member sites
to decide which ads to serve, so it is important to keep the
articles and information you publish relevant to the keywords you
hope to attract.

In addition, content relevance is one of the prime factors used to
determine earnings per click.  A top ranking web site will be
considered more relevant than a lower ranking one, so it is
important to watch the Google search rankings on an ongoing basis.

It is also important to keep in mind that advertisers will prefer
web sites that are relevant to purchasing a product.  For instance,
searching for the term "cell phone" can bring up everything from
pages on new cell phone technology to the dangers of radiation from
cell phones to the dangers of driving while on the phone. 

What advertisers want, however, are pages that discuss the value of cell
phones and tips on where to buy.  Those web sites would be
considered more relevant, and more valuable to advertisers.

So before you submit your site to Google AdSense, be sure it is
ready to go.  Look over the site one more time with the eyes of an
average visitor.  Make sure there are no typos or grammar errors,
and make sure the content is valuable and compelling.
